Training Support Team Specialist

Details: Interest Category: Operations & MaintenanceJob Description: Don chemical protective gear and operate in a toxic training area (an area within stringent environmental controls and all personnel who enter this area during training are outfitted in military protective gear at a level of protection known as Mission-Oriented Protective Posture Level 4 (MOPP-IV)). When working with water, an additional level of protection is required and necessitates wear of a vinyl Toxicological Protective Apron (TAP). Incumbent must enter the toxic training area before the students and instructors, set up training bays and prepare the normal Doff and Emergency Doff areas. While inside the training area, the incumbent processes expendable material generated during training that may have been, or is still, exposed to minimal quantities of nerve agent “hot” trash, and takes care of student problems to include emergency cutouts. The incumbent remains in the training area after training, to clean the training bays and the Doff Areas. Incumbent also supports “hot” trash work on days when GB or VX nerve agents are manufactured and bottled. TST personnel also serve as the Emergency Response Team (ERT), sitting outside the laboratory in MOPP II (a lesser level of protection not requiring wear of mask and gloves) while agent is being made and/or bottled. After-hour ERT and off-site ERT duties are NOT performed by the TST. TST Specialists will be trained in the sample collection technique of DAAMS. Depot Area Air Monitoring System (DAAMS) is a technique used to collect air samples for detection and quantification of low-level contamination. A TST Specialist is expected to operate up to four (4) hours per day (with occasional, infrequent requirements up to six (6) hours per day, with medical clearance) for a maximum of 24 hours wearing MOPP IV inside the toxic training area each week. Medical authorization must be granted in order to exceed 24 hours in MOPP IV per any given week. Additional hours of wearing the protective ensemble (without being masked) can and will exceed the 4-5 hour per day and 24-hour per week limitations.Performs Movement control duties.Performs other duties as assigned.Training Support Team (TST) Specialist Secondary Duties:Incumbent may act as Operations Center/Safety Control (OC/SC) Room Operator back up. The incumbent will be required to certify as an OC/SC Operator, providing back-up support to the primary OC/SC Operator. When the training schedule permits; assist in performing preventive maintenance routines. Accomplish minor repair and alterations involving all structural elements of the facilities and plant including masonry, metal work, hardware, painting, carpentry, and other activities associated with the correction of deficiencies; and assist Air Monitoring personnel with non-technical maintenance of equipment in the toxic training area. Safely operate grounds maintenance equipment, to include: self-propelled and riding mowers, weed trimmer, edger, and other gas-operated and manual gardening tools. Capable of lifting 40 lbs., unassisted. Load and unload material and equipment such as equipment parts, plants, mulch, etc. The wearing of MOPP-IV in support of PC&E or for maintenance operations is not required if it hinders incumbent’s primary duties and responsibilities (i.e., does not impact the weekly 20-hr. limitation).Training Support Team (TST) SupervisorDuties:In addition to the base requirements of this job description, the incumbent in the lead position will be expected to:Serve as the coordinator of all TST personnel and assist with their training, maintain a “Lead by Example and from the Front” style of leadership, create and maintain TST work (rotational) schedules, and work successfully with all levels of management and all functional areas of CDTF operations.
